1st Sunday of Apostle

First Reading:  Exodus 19:1-9 ; 20:18-21

1In the third month, when the children of Israel were gone forth out of the land of Egypt, the same day came they into the wilderness of Sinai.  2For they were departed from Rephidim, and were come to the desert of Sinai, and had pitched in the wilderness; and there Israel camped before the mount.  3And Moses went up to God, and the LORD called to him out of the mountain, saying, Thus shall you say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel;  4You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles' wings, and brought you to myself.  5Now therefore, if you will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then you shall be a peculiar treasure to me above all people: for all the earth is mine:  6And you shall be to me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Israel.  7And Moses came and called for the elders of the people, and laid before their faces all these words which the LORD commanded him.  8And all the people answered together, and said, All that the LORD has spoken we will do. And Moses returned the words of the people to the LORD.  9And the LORD said to Moses, See, I come to you in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with you, and believe you for ever. And Moses told the words of the people to the LORD.
 18And all the people saw the thunder, and the lightning, and the noise of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking: and when the people saw it, they removed, and stood afar off.  19And they said to Moses, Speak you with us, and we will hear: but let not God speak with us, lest we die.  20And Moses said to the people, Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before your faces, that you sin not.  21And the people stood afar off, and Moses drew near to the thick darkness where God was.

Second ReadingActs 2:1-21

1And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.  2And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.  3And there appeared to them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat on each of them.  4And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.  5And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.  6Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.  7And they were all amazed and marveled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans?  8And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?  9Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia,  10Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes,  11Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.  12And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What means this?  13Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine.  14But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said to them, You men of Judaea, and all you that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known to you, and listen to my words:  15For these are not drunken, as you suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day.  16But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;  17And it shall come to pass in the last days, said God, I will pour out of my Spirit on all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:  18And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:  19And I will show wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke:  20The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and notable day of the Lord come:  21And it shall come to pass, that whoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Third Reading: 1 Corinthians 12:1-27

1Now concerning spiritual gifts, brothers, I would not have you ignorant.  2You know that you were Gentiles, carried away to these dumb idols, even as you were led.  3Why I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.  4Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.  5And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.  6And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which works all in all.  7But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit with.  8For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;  9To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;  10To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:  11But all these works that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.  12For as the body is one, and has many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.  13For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.  14For the body is not one member, but many.  15If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?  16And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?  17If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling?  18But now has God set the members every one of them in the body, as it has pleased him.  19And if they were all one member, where were the body?  20But now are they many members, yet but one body.  21And the eye cannot say to the hand, I have no need of you: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you.  22No, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary:  23And those members of the body, which we think to be less honorable, on these we bestow more abundant honor; and our uncomely parts have more abundant comeliness.  24For our comely parts have no need: but God has tempered the body together, having given more abundant honor to that part which lacked.  25That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another.  26And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honored, all the members rejoice with it.  27Now you are the body of Christ, and members in particular.

Fourth Reading: John 14:15-16 ;14:25-26; 15:26-27; 16:1-15

15If you love me, keep my commandments.  16And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
 25These things have I spoken to you, being yet present with you.  26But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatever I have said to you.
 26But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send to you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceeds from the Father, he shall testify of me:  27And you also shall bear witness, because you have been with me from the beginning.
 1These things have I spoken to you, that you should not be offended.  2They shall put you out of the synagogues: yes, the time comes, that whoever kills you will think that he does God service.  3And these things will they do to you, because they have not known the Father, nor me.  4But these things have I told you, that when the time shall come, you may remember that I told you of them. And these things I said not to you at the beginning, because I was with you.  5But now I go my way to him that sent me; and none of you asks me, Where go you?  6But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart.  7Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send him to you.  8And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:  9Of sin, because they believe not on me;  10Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and you see me no more;  11Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.  12I have yet many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now.  13However, when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come.  14He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall show it to you.  15All things that the Father has are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall show it to you.
